The Surinam Cherry (Eugenia uniflora) is also known as Pitanga, Brazilian cherry, Cayenne cherry and some other names. It is a fast and easy growing hardy plant. The fruits are ripening in approximately three weeks after flowering. Unripe fruits have an unpalatable and unpleasant, sour and bitter flavor.

 

Taste: The orange-red flesh is aqueous and soft, including 1 to 3 seeds, the sweet-tart flavor is acidic with mild, earthy, and subtly bitter nuances.
