Windsor Blueberry bushes can reach heights of up to 6 feet and widths of 4 feet, making them a striking addition to any garden. You can also maintain them at a manageable height (around 3-4 feet) with regular pruning. Their large (typically around 1.5 to 2 cm (0.6 to 0.8 inches) in diameter), firm berries are not only sweet and juicy but also among the largest produced by southern highbush varieties.
To ensure these bushes thrive and yield abundantly, they require well-drained, acidic soil with a pH between 4.0 and 5.0. Planting them in full sun and providing consistent moisture is essential. Incorporating mulch helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Additionally, since Windsor blueberries are not self-fertile, it's beneficial to plant them alongside other southern highbush cultivars that have similar bloom periods.
With proper care, a healthy Windsor blueberry bush can produce up to 20 pounds of berries each year, typically ripening between April and May.
