Ideal location
Turmeric plants grow best in a location that receives at least three hours of full sun each day, but ideally morning sun and afternoon shade.
Temperature
Turmeric plants prefer temperatures between 68–86 °F (20–30 °C). When temperatures rise above 90 °F, they need more water and afternoon shade.
Soil
Turmeric plants need well-drained soil that's rich in organic matter.
Watering
Turmeric plants need medium watering, but potted plants may need more water because they dry out faster. However, overwatering can cause the rhizomes to rot.
Planting
The best time to plant turmeric is early spring. When planting, cut the rhizome into pieces that are 1–1.5 inches long, and make sure each piece has at least one "eye".
